Ladder hire prices depend on the type and length of ladder and how long you need it. Step ladders are the cheapest, followed by double extension, then triple extension. A double extension ladder has two sections that slide together for storage and extend to make one taller ladder. It typically reaches up to around 8m. A triple extension ladder has three sections and uses a rope-and-pulley system to lift the upper two sections, reaching up to around 10m and above. Triple extension is heavier and more complex to set up but is the only way to reach higher work from a portable ladder.

For gutter cleaning, fascia work, or roof access on a typical UK 2-storey house, you’ll want a double extension ladder reaching around 6-8m. The gutters usually sit at about 5-6m from ground level, and you need the ladder to extend at least 1m above where you’re working. Call the team and describe the job; they can confirm the right ladder for your particular house.

All our ladders are rated to 150kg safe working load. That’s the maximum weight of the operator plus any tools, materials, or equipment being carried up the ladder. If you’re a heavier operator with a tool belt and a bucket of tiles, do the maths before you climb. The load rating isn’t a suggestion; overloading a ladder is one of the ways they fail.

Staircase ladders (adjustable-leg step ladders for use on staircases where the ground is uneven) are a specialist product. Call the team to confirm current availability. If we don’t stock them, we can advise on the best alternative for your job.

Our triple extension ladders reach up to approximately 10m at working height. For anything higher than that, you’d want to look at scaffold, an access tower, or a MEWP (mobile elevated work platform) – much safer than a portable ladder at those heights. Hirelink hires scaffold towers up to 12.2m platform height.

There’s no legal requirement for a formal ladder qualification for domestic or trade use, but the Working at Height Regulations 2005 apply to any work at height, including ladder work. Employers must ensure operators are competent. The Ladder Association offers formal ladder safety training courses (Ladder User and Ladder Inspector) which are worth doing if your team uses ladders regularly.

Standard step ladders and extension ladders are designed for use on level ground only. Setting them up on stairs or uneven surfaces is a known way to fall. For stair work, you need a staircase ladder (with adjustable legs), a properly designed stair scaffold platform, or a different access solution. Never prop one leg of a ladder on a box, brick, or block to level it.

Yes. All Hirelink ladders come with non-slip rubber feet as standard. Grip is good on dry concrete, tarmac, brick, and paving. Grip drops on wet surfaces, and disappears entirely on ice, snow, or wet grass. Never use a ladder in conditions where the feet won’t grip; postpone the job or use a different access method.

Yes. Hirelink offers daily hire on the full ladder range. Daily hire suits quick jobs like a single gutter clean, hanging Christmas lights, or one-off maintenance work. For anything longer, weekend or weekly hire is usually better value.

For most hires we’ll need photo ID (driving licence or passport), proof of address dated within the last three months, and a small refundable deposit. Trade customers with an account just need to confirm the booking. For collection, bring a vehicle big enough for the ladder – or take delivery for the longer ones.
