The Reason

Why Choose Hirelink for Micro Digger Hire in the Midlands?

The Kubota K008-3 retracts to around 700mm wide, which means it fits through a standard single doorway, a garden gate, or down a side passage. If you’ve ever tried to dig out a back garden by hand because no plant could get round to it, this is the machine that solves that.

Twin joystick controls, simple foot pedals, and a forgiving feel make the K008-3 one of the easier machines to learn. We’ll give you a walk-through when you collect or take delivery. If you’ve never operated plant before, allow yourself an hour to get comfortable before you start the real work.

The dozer blade widens for stability and grading work, and narrows to clear tight openings. The boom offsets left and right so you can dig trenches close to walls, fence lines, and buildings without repositioning the machine.

Hirelink operates from four depots: Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield, Aldridge, and near Birmingham Airport. We deliver the digger on our plant trailer and unload it on site, so you don’t need a towing vehicle or a plant licence to get the machine where you need it.

Hire over the weekend for a two-day garden job, by the week for a longer build, or longer if your project runs on. Weekend hire is popular for domestic landscaping and the Friday collection / Monday return slot usually works out cheaper than two separate day hires.

Every digger is checked, serviced, and tested between hires. Greased, fuelled (talk to the team about fuel arrangements), and ready to start work on arrival. Buckets are supplied with the machine.

The Return

Kubota K008-3 Micro Digger Hire - What You Get

Hirelink’s micro digger hire is the Kubota K008-3, a sub-tonne compact excavator built for tight access jobs where a 1.5T or 1.7T mini digger simply won’t fit. With its tracks retracted, the K008-3 measures around 700mm wide, which is narrow enough to pass through a standard doorway. Once on site, the tracks extend to give the machine the stability it needs to dig safely.

The K008-3 has a digging depth of approximately 1.72m, a maximum reach of around 3m, and a dumping height of approximately 1.7m. That’s plenty for foundation trenches up to a metre and a half deep, drainage runs, pond and patio excavation, small footings, garden levelling work, and loading wheelbarrows or a small tracked dumper. The boom offsets left and right so you can work parallel to walls and fence lines without breaking off to reposition the digger.

Standard kit includes a folding ROPS rollover protective structure (which can be lowered for low clearance jobs), an expandable dozer blade for grading and stabilising, twin joystick controls, rubber tracks suitable for finished surfaces, and a Tier 4 compliant diesel engine. The K008-3 takes standard buckets via a quick-hitch. We’ll supply a digging bucket as standard. Trenching, grading, and ditching buckets are available on request, just let the team know when you book.

Hiring a micro digger works out far cheaper than buying for project-based use. A new Kubota K008-3 costs around £15,000 before VAT, plus a plant trailer, servicing, secure storage, and insurance. Short-term and long-term hire from Hirelink removes the capital cost entirely. For one weekend in the back garden, or a fortnight’s worth of footings, hire is the right commercial call.

The Difference

Micro Digger, Mini Digger, or Bigger Plant - Which Do You Need?

Micro Digger (Kubota K008-3, under 1T)

Around 700mm wide with tracks in. Fits through a single doorway or garden gate. Digging depth around 1.72m. Right pick for back gardens, indoor groundworks, drainage, small landscaping, and any job with restricted access. Easy for first-time operators.

Micro Digger (Diesel, 1T class)

Diesel is the standard fuel for plant in this size class. More torque under load than petrol or electric, longer run times, and the engine sips fuel at idle. Tier 4 compliant on emissions, so fine to use on most domestic and commercial jobs.

Mini Digger (1.5T-1.7T)

Around 980mm to 1m wide. Needs a double gate or driveway access. Digging depth around 2.3m and noticeably faster cycle times. Better for footings on new builds, larger drainage runs, and any job where the access is open. Hirelink hires mini diggers separately.

Manual Digging or Tracked Dumper Only

For very small jobs (digging a few post holes, lifting a couple of patio slabs), a digger may be overkill. A tracked dumper paired with a couple of hands can shift earth in tight spaces. But for anything involving trenches, foundations, or moving more than a few barrows of spoil, the micro digger pays for itself in time saved.

The Logistics

Micro Digger Hire Delivery Across the Midlands

Hirelink delivers micro diggers from four Midlands depots located in Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield, Aldridge, and near Birmingham Airport. Together, these depots cover the full West Midlands region and large parts of Staffordshire.

Delivery is the standard option for plant hire. The K008-3 sits on a plant trailer, which most people don’t have access to, and a B+E licence is required to tow a trailer of that weight. We deliver to your site on our own vehicles and unload the machine on arrival. Areas served include Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Walsall, West Bromwich, Solihull, Tamworth, Burton upon Trent, Cannock, Stafford, and the surrounding towns and villages across the Midlands.

The Process

How to Hire a Micro Digger from Hirelink

Tell Us About the Job

Give the team a quick rundown: what you’re digging, how deep, how wide the access is (gate width, doorway, side passage), and your hire dates. We’ll confirm the K008-3 is the right size or recommend a different machine if your job suits a 1.5T or 1.7T mini digger better.

Confirm Booking and Delivery

We’ll check availability at your nearest depot, confirm pricing, and arrange the delivery slot. For weekend hires, delivery is normally Friday afternoon with collection Monday morning. Let us know if you need any extra buckets (trenching, grading) with the machine.

Walk-Through, Dig, Return

Our driver will run you through the controls when the machine arrives, including the joysticks, pedals, dozer blade, boom offset, and safe shutdown. Start digging. We’ll collect on your agreed return date.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Micro Digger Hire

Micro digger hire prices depend on hire length and delivery distance. Daily rates suit one-off jobs, weekend hire works well for two-day domestic projects (typically Friday to Monday), and weekly rates work out cheaper per day for anything longer. Delivery is usually charged separately based on mileage from your nearest depot. Call Hirelink or submit an enquiry for a current price on the Kubota K008-3.

Yes, in most cases. With the tracks retracted, the Kubota K008-3 measures approximately 700mm wide, which fits through a standard UK single doorway (typically 760-810mm) and through most domestic garden gates. Measure your access point at its narrowest, including any door frames or gate posts, before you book. If the access is borderline, give the team a ring and we’ll talk it through.

The Kubota K008-3 has a maximum digging depth of approximately 1.72m. That’s enough for the vast majority of domestic and small commercial groundworks: drainage trenches, foundations for garden rooms and extensions, fence post holes, garden pond excavation, and patio sub-bases. For deeper trenches, you’ll want to step up to a 1.5T or 1.7T mini digger.

Standard jobs include foundations for garden offices, garden levelling, drainage runs, soakaways, patio and decking sub-bases, pond and water feature excavation, tree stump removal, fence post holes, small landscaping projects, indoor groundworks (in commercial conversions), and clearing spoil. Anywhere a mini digger can’t fit but a spade is too slow.

There’s no legal requirement for a formal qualification to operate a micro digger on private domestic land, but you must use the machine safely and in line with the manufacturer’s guidance. For commercial site work, operators should hold a CPCS or NPORS card for 360 degree excavators. If you’re new to digger operation, give yourself an hour of practice on a clear bit of ground before starting the real work.

The Kubota K008-3 is one of the easier diggers to learn. It uses standard twin-joystick controls (ISO or SAE pattern depending on the machine; we’ll confirm at handover) plus simple foot pedals for the tracks. The forgiving response and small bucket capacity make it a good machine to learn on. Our driver will run you through the controls when the machine arrives.

The machine arrives ready to start work, with enough diesel to get going. For short hires that’s usually enough. For longer hires or heavier use, you’ll need to top up with regular road diesel (or red diesel where you’re entitled to use it). Confirm fuel arrangements with the team when you book; this varies slightly between depots.

A digging bucket is supplied as standard. Trenching buckets (narrower, for drainage), grading buckets (wider, for finishing), and ditching buckets are available on request. Let the team know the sizes you need when you book and we’ll have them ready with the machine. The K008-3 uses a quick-hitch so swapping buckets on site takes a minute.

Almost certainly not on a standard car licence. The Kubota K008-3 plus a plant trailer weighs more than 750kg, which means towing it requires a B+E licence category (only automatic on licences issued before 1997 in the UK). Most customers take delivery rather than collect. If you’re a trade customer with the right licence and your own trailer, talk to the team about collection.

Yes. The K008-3 runs on rubber tracks, which are safe for use on block paving, tarmac, decking, and finished surfaces without marking them. The expandable dozer blade also has a rubber edge option. Avoid sharp turns on soft tarmac in hot weather and lay ground protection mats on anything you absolutely can’t risk damaging.

Standard plant PPE applies. Wear a hard hat (the K008-3 has a ROPS frame, but PPE is still required), steel toe-capped safety boots, heavy-duty gloves, eye protection, and high-vis clothing if you’re on a commercial site or near a public road. Keep bystanders well clear of the working area, especially the swing radius behind the machine.

For most hires we’ll need photo ID (driving licence or passport), proof of address dated within the last three months, and a deposit at the time of booking. Trade customers with an account just need to confirm the booking. For commercial use, your site should have appropriate planning, method statements, and signage in place before the machine arrives.
