A paddle mixer is a handheld electric mixer that spins a long steel paddle in a bucket or tub to blend powders and liquids into a smooth, even mix. Plasterers, tilers, renderers and builders use it for plaster, tile adhesive, grout, render, mortar, screed, self-levelling compound and paint. It’s also called a mixing drill, plaster mixer, power stirrer or paddle mixer drill.

The Altrad Belle Promix mixers we hire use a two-speed mechanical gearbox with variable speed on the trigger. The 1200E runs from 76 to 578rpm and the 1600E from 153 to 670rpm. Use the low gear for heavy mixes such as mortar and adhesive, where you need torque more than speed, and the high gear for runnier mixes such as paint and levelling compound. Both machines stand 997mm tall with the paddle fitted and take any standard M14 x 2 paddle.

Common uses include mixing multi-finish and bonding plaster for skimming, tile adhesive and grout for bathrooms and kitchens, sand and cement render, bricklaying mortar in small batches, floor screed and self-levelling compound, and paint and textured coatings in bulk. Homeowners hire them too, usually for a bathroom retile or a weekend of plastering.

A paddle mixer isn’t built for concrete with aggregate or for large volumes. For shed bases, footings and paths, a drum cement mixer is the right machine.

A mixing paddle fitted to an ordinary drill. Fine for stirring paint or a small bag of adhesive, but most drills lack the low-speed torque for heavy mixes and can overheat. Check your drill’s manual before using a paddle in it. Hirelink hires complete paddle mixers rather than paddles on their own.

Cordless Paddle Mixer

Battery mixers give freedom from the lead but a battery can run flat quickly on heavy mixes. The Promix mixers we hire are corded, which gives constant power for a full day of mixing.

Confirm Booking and Collection

We’ll check availability at your nearest depot and quote for the mixer, paddle and any transformer as one hire. Trade account holders just confirm the booking. New customers bring photo ID and a refundable deposit. Collect from the depot or ask about delivery.

Mix, Clean and Return

Read the operating instructions supplied. Add water to the bucket first, put the paddle in, then start slowly and add powder as you go. Clean the paddle in water straight after each batch so material doesn’t set on it. Return the mixer clean on your agreed date and we’ll inspect it before its next hire.
