Yes. The HTD-5 measures approximately 690mm wide, which fits through a standard UK single doorway (usually 760mm or wider). It also fits through most garden gates and side passages. Measure the narrowest access point on your job before booking; if it’s under 700mm we’ll need to check the exact dimensions.

The HTD-5 has a 500kg safe working load, which works out to roughly 15 standard wheelbarrow loads or about 120 house bricks. On a full day of loading, one operator and one machine can shift more spoil than a team of four with wheelbarrows.

Not for continuous use. The HTD-5 runs a diesel engine that produces carbon monoxide exhaust, which can build up to fatal levels in enclosed spaces. For indoor spoil removal, drive the machine in briefly to load, then drive out to tip. Don’t idle it inside a building. For fully enclosed work with no natural ventilation, an electric mini dumper is safer – ask the team about alternatives.

Yes, within limits. The tracks give the HTD-5 grip on gradients that would defeat a wheeled dumper, and it can handle small steps and kerbs. Steeper slopes above 20 degrees, wet grass, and slippery ground reduce the safe operating angle – don’t push the machine beyond what feels controllable. Never load the skip up a slope unless the ground is firm.

The HTD-5 uses twin-joystick track controls similar to a mini excavator. Most people are comfortable driving it within about 15 minutes of practice. Our driver will run you through the controls at handover. If you’ve operated a tracked digger before, the tracks work the same way; if not, allow yourself half an hour on clear ground before doing anything precise.

Diesel. Standard road-grade diesel from any UK filling station works fine. Red diesel can be used where you’re legally entitled to (agricultural, forestry). The machine arrives with enough diesel to start work; for longer hires you’ll need to top up. Never run it dry – diesel injectors don’t like it.

There’s no legal requirement for a formal qualification for domestic use on private land. For commercial site work, operators should hold a CPCS or NPORS card for the appropriate machine category. Anyone using the machine on public roads or highways needs proper insurance and licences. Ask the team if you’re not sure whether your job counts as commercial.

Almost certainly not on a standard car licence. The HTD-5 plus a plant trailer weighs over the 3.5 tonne combined limit for a Category B licence, so you’d need Category B+E and a suitable towing vehicle. Most customers take delivery rather than collect. Trade customers with their own trailers and licences can call to discuss collection.

Yes. Daily hire on the HTD-5 suits shorter jobs like a single garden clearance, a one-off phase of a bigger project, or emergency access work. For anything longer than a single day, weekend or weekly hire is usually better value.

For most hires we’ll need photo ID (driving licence), and proof of address dated within the last three months, and a deposit at the time of booking. Trade customers with an account just need to confirm the booking. For commercial site use, have your site risk assessment ready in case we need to see it.
