The DFG 280-5’s wall-walking roller bearing lets you grind right up to the edge on both sides of the machine, which matters when you’re prepping a room with skirting or walls and don’t want to hand-grind the perimeter afterwards. Removable lid covers and adjustable wheels convert the machine for edge work in seconds.
The dust port is designed to connect straight to an M-class dust extractor for compliant silica control. Hirelink hires the extractor alongside the grinder so you get a full compliant setup, not just the machine on its own.

The Process
Describe what you’re grinding (removing old adhesive, prepping for polished concrete, taking a floor back to bare concrete), the floor area in square metres, and your site’s power supply (110V or 240V). We’ll confirm the right machine size, which grit blocks you need and how many, and whether you need a transformer.
We’ll check availability, confirm pricing, and arrange delivery. Include the dust extractor in your hire – silica compliance isn’t optional and the extractor plugs straight into the grinder’s vac port. Confirm PPE arrangements at the same time.
Connect the grinder to the extractor and the 110V supply, fit the diamond blocks, lower the head, and start grinding. Return the equipment on your agreed collection date. Grinding blocks are consumables and stay with you regardless of use.

The SPE DFG 280-5 is a 110V machine. On a construction site with a 110V transformer or 110V generator, plug straight in. In a domestic or commercial property running standard 240V mains, you’ll need a 5kVA transformer to step down. Hirelink hires the transformer alongside the grinder if you need one. Confirm your supply when you book.
Yes, always. Floor grinding produces respirable crystalline silica dust, which is a Group 1 carcinogen and covered by strict HSE workplace exposure limits. The SPE grinder has a vac port designed to connect to an M-class or H-class dust extractor. Running the grinder without extraction is a serious health hazard and a legal issue on commercial jobs. Hirelink hires the extractor alongside the grinder.
A P3-rated respirator or half-face mask with P3 filters (standard FFP1/FFP2 dust masks are not enough for silica), eye protection, ear protection (the grinder runs at around 86 dB), heavy-duty gloves, and steel toe-capped boots. For commercial jobs, your COSHH assessment covers silica exposure control and the PPE requirements.
As a rough guide, the single head 280mm grinder covers around 8-15 m² per hour depending on grit, how much material you’re taking off, and how many passes you need. Coating removal is slower than surface prep. The twin head 400mm grinder roughly doubles that rate on open floors. For jobs over 100 m², the twin head is a better commercial choice.
